with that being said - 그렇지만, 그건 그렇고

 

with that being said는 회화체에서 자주 쓰이는 관용적 표현이다.

두가지 용법이 있다.

 

1. 앞에 나온 말과 반대되거나 다른 내용을 말할때

Italy is a very popular honeymoon destination. With that being said, I’d still rather go to Vietnam.

이탈리아는 신혼여행지로 인기가 많아. 그렇지만 나라면 베트남으로 가겠어.

 

despite what has just been said

 

두가지 내용을 연달아 이야기할때, 두번째로 나오는 내용이 처음에 말한 내용에서 기대되는 바와 달라질때 사용한다.
However, Nevertheless, Even so 등으로 대체할 수 있다.

 

앞에 나온 내용이 과거의 일이면, That having been said로 연결한다.

 

I swore off chocolate last week. That having been said, pass me a slice of cake, please.

지난주에 초콜렛 끊기로 했어. 그래도 케이크 한 조각 좀 줄래?  

 

※ swear off: to make a decision to stop doing, using, or being involved with something harmful, such as drugs or alcohol, or something that is not good or helpful

술, 담배 등 해로운 것을 끊기로 결심하다.

동일한 표현으로

“That being said”, “Having said that” 이 있다.

 

I hate commas. Having said that, I know they can add beauty to language when used well. 

나는 콤마를 싫어해. 그렇지만 콤마가 잘 사용되면 언어에 아름다움을 더해줄 수 있다는 걸 알아.

 

 

아주 짧게 말하면 that said라고 할 수 있다.

 

Bob’s such a dummie. That said, he sure is funny.

밥은 완전 멍청이야. 그래도 웃긴건 확실하지.

 

 

2. 앞서 이야기한 내용을 요약하거나 마무리할때

With that being said, let’s move on to the next item on the meeting agenda.

그건 그렇고, 다음 회의 주제로 넘어갑시다.

 

now that I have said all that

 

새로운 주제로 넘어가기 위해 앞서 이야기한 내용을 마무리하기 위해 사용한다.
